WORLD WAR MECH by johnsonting WORLD WAR MECH by johnsonting
Hey guys! Been awhile :D Been thinking of some ideas recently to try something out, here's a quick idea of it for now.

Planning to do some alt- WWII stuffs, like nations using giant mechas to fight the war and so on.  i'll try to come up with some old WWII looking photos but with mechs in it, to try and blend them together. Gonna need a lot more exploration for it to happen, any ideas on which country should have what sort of mechs? :D

EDIT: fixed some stuffs!

I would think you should give Japan the sleeker, faster mechs, Russia the massive tank like mechs, America the well rounded mechs (maybe nuclear powered?), Britain the air oriented mechs ( cause the royal air force), German would have some kinds experimental mech (the Germans did lots of experiments, some regarding super weapons and time travel), and really don't know what Italy would have.

Really cool!
But if you really want to make it look like WWII then making the mechs more tank-like would be good, and suit the era better :)
The Leviathan Trilogy by Scott Westerfield is an alternate WWI that has mechs, and it would be really good inspiration!

The earth quaked with the impact of artillery and Pvt. Louis Macmillan tried even harder to force himself lower in his foxhole. He glanced around and tried to catch a glimpse of the rest of his squad. Three of them were dead. Two were missing, including the sergeant. To say the situation looked bleak would be an insulting understatement. Louis could only think of his pregnant wife, waving goodbye as he sailed off... and the daughter he would leave orphaned if he died here. He clutched at the photo of them for dear life and squeezed his eyes shut to await the end. Then something happened. Even through the haze of smoke and dust, the sun had been visible. But now it was gone. The light had been extinguished. Pvt. Macmillan looked up and saw the silhouette of an enormous humanoid figure. The massive machine loomed over the field like a god of war and Louis felt his face go numb. Two more arrived at its side and they stepped forwards. Louis peered over the lip of his refuge and spied the Titans' German counterparts appear from the gloom. The Titans on both sides raised their weapons, and the battlefield shook with unprecedented violence.

Hey man!
Cool thinking. Trying to keep the flow going here, how 'bout giving the Germans the heaviest of the bunch, polished and angled like their Tiger tanks? And the Russians would have the thickest ones, kind of rusty with ill-fitting artillery guns on it, a bit clunky but with lots of firepower. Then you have the American ones, maybe amphbious to show they came with D-Day. Lighter with some trademark 50.cals. And the Japanese sort of low, jungle-crawling ones, good for ambushes and jungle raids.
For more inspiration on WW2 Mechs, you should try and google the comic Dust.
Hope it helped, good luck!

God this pic makes me want to write a story like this. And that title, "World War Mech".

Sounds so brilliant! Well done mate!

Oh and you should definitely try to come up with an airborne variant for both the Americans and Germans. Airborne Infantry units were such new and effective concept to warfare at the time, I don't see why adding mechs wouldn't make things better!

Malaysia should have mechs during the japanese occupation where its made of scrap material and parts from Japanese mechs and it would have jungle camo because Malaysia was mostly forest back then. That would be BAD ASS!

Maybe you could use the tanks, aircraft or warships that each country used as reference/inspiration, just to base the mech design on the direction each country were going for for their war machines.
you could also base it on the unique/specialist soldiers of each country.
the US had their Marines, Airborne troopers and Rangers; the Germans got their Stormtroopers, SS, Fallschirmjager; the UK have the Royal Commandoes and SAS; the USSR got their shock troops, commissars

maybe you could add a Soviet mech standing beside the Russian troops setting the flag on the top of the Reichstag

or a USMC mech in the background in the picture of Gen. MacArthur on Leyte beach

or Japanese mechs over-watching the British surrender of Singapore

Go with the history really, design the mechs around the types of tanks the army's of the day used.  Simply because if they had mechs there would have been no need for tanks, essentially mechs are standing tanks. You can find tons of pictures of the various tanks being used if you want to go the realistic route.  other wise I agree with everyone else samurai mechs would be cool for the Japanese ditch the spike for german tanks though that would just look weird.

I feel that Russia would have mechs that, while not complex or as customizable as other mechs may be, they would be rugged and incredibly reliable.

I would see Russian mechs as being bulky and very industrialistic, almost cobbled together. German mechs might be armored and tough, but weak points may be more than obvious. (Lel German mechs have spikes)

the french mechs would be lighter armored and more agile. and i think we can all agree the Japanese mech would be a samuri

Eh, maybe. Although I would think the nation's would be going more for practicality rather than appearance.

Ahh yes, that is a very good description! German mechs have spikes is such a good idea, like the spike they have on their older helmets!

Ideas of country ? Meh. The country of mechas : Japan.
I mean, Japanese soldiers will give you a lot of pictures you can work with, since they were both fighting with rifles and fighting at point blank range, melee.
Pictures of urbans fights aside of tanks, or ambushes, skirmishes can make great samples to work with.

Anyway, you got a really nice idea here, I'm looking forward to it !
